My Collector Wall & #21
by on 5/27/2009 11:10:07 AM

Today's painting, "Beacon of Light, Marblehead," is of just the top part of the Marblehead lighthouse.   The more I paint these, the more excited I am getting about returning there in July.   This is painted from a photo.   In July the paintings will be done on site, in the warm summer sun!

MY COLLECTOR WALL!!!!
 A few weeks ago, I received a beautiful 11 x 14 inch original oil painting by Mick McGinty.  Oh!  It had that wonderful smell of fresh wet oils!!   And, of course, the painting was splendid!   I have a wall that is set aside just for fellow artist's work.   Looking at them inspires me and  lifts me into another world.   I am daily blessed with master brush strokes and color mixtures.   Actually, I have two walls for these luscious jewels.  Here you see one of my Collector Walls in the dining room where I paint my weekly paintings.

My Second Collector Wall is reserved for and is in the basement studio where I work on larger paintings.   I'm getting so I dislike prints and like original work more and more.   Sure, we all can go to Walmart or Hobby Lobby and get a cheapo print on thin paper of some master, and put it in a beautiful frame to match the furniture; but unfortunately, in my humble opinion, this really cheapens the glory of an original.  Please consider the "other option" of owning an original work of art to grace your home.  You don't need an entire wall, but it is a fabulous experience to have one!!

I do not need to see the water to know it is there. I am feed by the trees and water around me. I glorify the Lord when they are near.

Donna, this is my favorite of all the Lake Erie pieces you have done. How majestic and beautiful is that blue sky! I have not seen a painting of the lighthouse from this perspective. Do I see the light of His glory shining in the UL corner?

Years ago, an artist friend who bought one of my originals told me "original art on your walls changes your life". This is so true. Our artistic influences come from many directions, but seeing art we love and admire on our walls day to day makes us grow and change as artists in ways we might not otherwise.

I too have several spots in my home where I've hung fellow artists' work I love. And when I receive a birthday gift of cash or have made lots of recent sales, I splurge and add another piece I love to the collection.

Happy painting (and collecting!)

I hope to see the actual paintings on your collector's wall sometime. I like the unusual perspective of looking at the top of the lighthouse into the sky.

Hi, Donna,

Decided to try again and see if this posting occurs. Those branches are wonderful. I like the reflected blue light on the trunk.

This is by far the best one yet of the Marblehead series. The perspective is interesting & I love the way the branches form a frame encasing the top of the lighthouse - great composition.

Donna, as you know, I have started praying and asking the Lord to speak to me through your paintings, to let me see below the surface. He revealed many things to me about "Beacon of Light, Marblehead" which I e-mailed to you. As it was rather lengthy, I will only share here the highlights: I saw in this painting the oneness between our Lord and His Bride, the Church: In the bright blue sky, the lighthouse and the whiteness of it, and the branches, I saw the divine brightness of Christ and the brightness of His Bride; I saw how He is the Light of the world, and how every Believer is also the light of the world;

I saw Him as the Righteous Branch of the Old Testament and His Church as the branches of the New Testament. (Mark 9:2,3; Proverbs 4:18; Revelation 19:7,8; Matthew 5:14-16; I Peter 2:9; Isaiah 4:2; Jeremiah 23:5; Zechariah 3:8, 6:12; Revelation 1:16; John 15:5)

I am tremendously blessed by your gift as an artist, and also by the spiritual side of this painting. I remember you saying one time that you wanted to see Jesus hidden in your paintings like the one you did several years ago; well, I think He is revealing Himself through the symbolism in your work. Since I have been praying, I have been seeing Jesus in every painting. There is truly an anointing that goes beyond the natural beauty of what you accomplish. I can't wait to see Jesus in your next painting!
