Marian Series ("Simeon")

SIMEON BLESSING JESUS, is one of 30 paintings being done for the 2011 Exhibit at the University of Dayton. These paintings will be ongoing in the next couple of years; as a task of this magnitude, although joyful at every turn, is quite a large undertaking! I dearly look forward to your comments. Thanks for taking a moment out of your busy day to enjoy what God is doing in my painting life.

	I can relate to the concept of Mary watching from a short distance as Simeon takes Jesus in his arms. Though she loved Jesus dearly, Mary must have felt a bit puzzled by this dear little one whose birth was so unlike that of other children.

	11-29-09 Dear Donna, Well, I have waited patiently for another in your Marian series and you have not disappointed!! Thank you for sharing and, for a moment, allowing that veil between heaven and earth to drop! I love the warmth and light in the painting. The three pillars, so different from one another, immediately brought Father, Son, and Holy Ghost to mind. The presence of Mary in the background reminds us that this encounter between Simeon and Jesus took place in that part of the temple where women and Gentiles were allowed to be, which represents that this Child would be opening up the spiritual realm to one that would forever be radically inclusive. But the real genius of your painting was Simeon's eyes being closed so that we would all understand the kind of "seeing" he was referencing when he spoke. The kind of seeing that takes place when the Holy Spirit is present and making Itself known. God Bless You for this radiant addition to your Spiritual Body of Artwork. You will always have my rapt attention when you paint with the Guidance of the Lord. I will be sending you something very soon that is an example of one of my own direct experiences with our Creator. 	Donna, I thought I had nothing new to add to the comments that were made about this painting, but this morning the Spirit really ministered to me about Simeon. It's along the same line as Elizabeth Cook's comment about why Simeon's eyes were closed in the painting. We can never understand Jesus through human vision. The eyes of our understanding must be enlightened by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:18)or we will totally miss why Jesus was born. The religious leaders "saw" Jesus, but they missed His significance. As Jesus once rebuked His disciples, "Having eyes, do you not see with them?" (Mark 8:18). So it is today. There are those who are seeing Jesus as the One who will rescue them from this wicked world, and there are those who are "seeing" Jesus as their Bridegroom and are longing for union with Him. They are longing to see the one who paid such a great price for their salvation. They are longing to be with Him forever and forever and forever! Dear Jesus, grant us all to have the eyes of Simeon!
